Hacker group LulzSec, the same group that has previously been a target of Sony and Nintendo in the past, has announced that it's committed three distributed denial of service attacks on gaming businesses today, which resulted in the shut down of EVE Online's Tranquility server, Minecraft's multiplayer features, and the website of the Escapist Magazine. EVE Online's CCP has confirmed both the outage and the attack, the Escapist website is unavailable at the moment, and Minecraft creator Notch says that things were down, but the service is now restored. LulzSec has yet to reveal an explanation for the attacks however, we can guess that it's for the laulz. Update The group has targeted Riot Games' League of Legends servers too. MINECRAFT SERVERS When trying to log in to the game gives a server busy message, though there's been no official announcement from the company as of yet. Update: CCP has issued a statement regarding the break. EVE Online seems to still be down. CCP was alerted by CCP at 17:00 GMT today regarding a distributed denial of service attack (DDoS) that targeted the EVE Online cluster as well as web servers. The services were immediately taken offline. In addition, all of CCP's infrastructure was shut off from the public Internet. The CCP Security team is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident and, if applicable it could affect the future might be and, first and foremost, assuring that the personal information of our customers is safe.
